Is something eating my coraline or is it bleaching and or dying off its only this one rock doing it

something is eating it for sure. Do you have urchins? The reason I ask is because I had a Rose Urchin that would clean my rocks exactly like your picture shows. And also Urchins will eat any and all algae, including Bubble Algae. Well mine did anyway, lol o_O

So I should do some night time stalking thanks guys I was suspecting a hitchhiking crab the urchin could be small enough to hide in the rock then

I've got to admit since I've started this tank I've had one hitchhiker after another and it's kinda dicouraging. To the point in ready to start over with dry rock Will I ever clean the annoyances out

So you dont have an urchin?
There is no hitchhiker that I know of that will clear that amount without being noticed

common causes off top of my head.
1. Lighting
2. Change in flow pattern in the tank
3. Calc/alk levels low
4. temperature much too high. like say 86
5. it was exposed to air, then put back in water.
I think these are more likely than not noticing an urchin in your tank. Or a crab being large enough not to be noticed eating that much coraline so quickly.

Since it seems better on rock above, I am going to go with lighting or change in flow of water in tank.

Did you change lighting recently, or make adjustments?

Has the rock been moved recently from another part of your tank?

Is this a new rock to your tank?

Have you been playing with your wavemaker recently?

It should come back if it is just air exposure causing some die off. It will stay purple out of water for days, but that doesn't mean it will stay purple when put back in water.
If it is flow or light make adjustments by moving the rock to a better lit area where it is not shadowed as much, or a better flow area. Use a string on a stick to test flow in your tank to make sure there are not low flow areas on sand bed where it is.

I have changed the light to a kissel there is no urchin (i kno of) I think my alk and cal may be low. Today I bought some additives for that.. I've been putting redsea coraline booster in the tank I could live with any option but another hitchhiker they've been a nightmare latley

Maybe it's that man made rock that they color to make it look like it's covered in coraline..?

If I changed a good portion of the rock to dry rock and start over would the tank cycle again?

yes it would, if your swapping out rock you will need to cure the new dry rock, and then maybe add microblift or any other good nitrifying bacteria

Coraline eater has been found! So I have a couple of these snails in my tank and I thought they were harmless.. Yea right. After enough observation I believe it's safe to say they were eating the coraline. I just plucked this little one from a spot I have been taking pics of to really keep an eye on him.. I also have a large one in the tank That for the moment I can't locate. But I remember seeing him on the rock we thought was eatin by an urchin.. This little one was duh into the rock so hard I had to pry him off. When he did come off he brought a chunk of coraline with him. Anyone know what these guys are and do snails really do that kind of damage?
