This is probably a pretty stupid question but since I don't know the answer to it, here goes.
Live rock that has been taken out of a tank and left out obviously dies off...I know that part .

My question though is after it is dead what is it good for? Can it be used for base rock in an aquarium? If it is put back into an aquarium will it eventually start growing stuff again? Does it still help with filtration? Does it hurt anything (like coral) if it's in a system?

Guess that was more than one question, huh?

Thanks guys!

If the rock is allowed to cycle and time is alloted to the rock before huge bio loads are placed on it then it will re-seed and become a biological filter once again. Just go slow with it and test the water.
