I recently was given a 30 salt water tank that was neglected. Water very dirty, there were 2 fish living in it, and about 30 lbs of live rock. My question is what steps do I need to take to clean the live rock so I can put it in my established tank?

How bad is it and is the tank up and running or in buckets? Doing water changes and running carbon and Gfo will go a long way. If it out of the tank in a bucket or a container you can still do water changes, manual removal of any big algae and then go lights out for a bit. Keep circulation and heat.

We could give you advice all day long and well never be able to give you the right advise. Post a pic of it for us to see the actual condition. Because in my honest opinion live rock is living just like our corals and fish and should be treated as such which for me means some time in quarantine. Ask yourself if the tank was neglected how many bad guys are living on that rock if anything is living at all

I Agree the culprit could very well still be lurking, best to set it in its own water and watch params, best case everythings fine, rinse and introduce, worst case it leeches and you gotta wait a long while till its done
