Live rock Transporting/Price per pound

What's the most amount of time that live rock can be out of the tank safely? There's a LFS about 35 minutes away from my house(well not so local) and I was wondering is that a safe amount of time for the rocks to be out of water before I put them in as soon as I get home?

Also what's a good price that they usually go for? At my LFS that I always go to(like 5 mins away) they sell for $7.99 per pound and I feel like $7.99 per pound is kinda high, or is that a common price, I don't really know I've only had my tank for about 3 weeks.

Agreed. If you're worried you can wrap the rock in some wet newspaper (wetted with tank water) so it's less likely to dry out. As for price I see it go from $5-$10 a pound depending on the shop and how nice the rock is.

I have live rock out of the tank for a week in a cooler wrapped with wet news paper and it was fine. I move the rock from Boston to Orlando in a moving truck once it got here, I mixed a batch on salt water and through a power head in the cooler and it sat in my hotel room for three week before I put the rock in a tank. This was 15 years ago and you will be more than fine. The price depends on were the rock is from and if the rock has been cured the right way.

There are online retailers that ship live rock 2-day priority mail just wrapped in some wet newspaper, so no worries about the drive! And that price sounds good based on what I see locally.
