We've had this tank for a bout 8 years and this rock turned neon green. Covers most of the rock and won't scrub with anything.

I’m new to the salt hobby but have bits of something like this on parts of my rock. When I scrape it with my fingernails it looks like a smoky dust cloud and the shrimp ran right over to see. My levels for ph are around 8 and nitrates very close to 0 as my bio load includes just one Molly and a blood shrimp. I just recently added my first coral and hope to keep going as I think the issue with mine is low nitrates. My tank is just new (6 months) so hard to tell. I removed the protein skimmer today in hopes of achieving more of a balance. I know this is an old thread. Maybe you found an answer? Please share if you did! Thanks! :)

Whew!! For a second I was concerned
