Live Rock Turning Purple

Hi All,

New Tank 3 days old and live rock is starting to turn purple in spots - should i be concerned at this early stage ???

would suggest to post a pic if you can. Should not be purple algae, or any other algae, only 3 days after starting a new tank. Did you start with dry rock or live rock?

That looks like you started with dry/dormant rock that is starting to turn live. My live rock is that color all over.

Does it brush off easily? Research Cyano to see if that’s a match

After a lot of research - I think it is Dry rock I purchased. Don't think its Cyano ....
If its just mother nature doing her thing, then great.

You aren't growing anything good that fast on dry rock in a new tank. Not bad either. Just part of how it works.

Although, I'm wrong a lot. Ask my wife.

Looks like wet rocks .
They will eventually be covered in all different colours and life but it will take time .

Looks like colored dry rock that was bumped in places and that’s where you see the darker spots. In 4 days it surely isn’t coralline algae.

My opinion, for what it's worth, is that it is nothing to be concerned about at this stage. It could be cyano, but speculating and worrying at day 3 isn't necessary. I would continue cycling and enjoying the tank.
