Live Rock vs Dry Rock

Im not going to use ocean pulled live rock again. Its not for me, but it certainly has a strong place in the hobby. Im all for starting with Marco rock, live sand, and bottled bacteria.

My first 20g has 55lbs of assorted types of live rock. Fiji, Totoka, and Pukani. I kept this rock in a tub of 1.025 with a powerhead for 3 weeks and did a couple water changes. There was some expected die off.

FWIW.......go with cured Live Rock from a good LPS. Part of the fun of this hobby is finding all that cool stuff coming out of the rock. 1 1/2 years later, I still find stuff. I haven't purchased anything in 8 months. Sure there can be pests, but that's why you spend the extra $$$ for cured rock.
My reef tank never cycled.
My local tank never cycled either. And I mean local. Local rock, sand, and water. Yep, bay water, unfiltered, and a inverts/fish only, no corals. My black seahorse, among the fish and crabs, is my prized critter. A year later, alls well. My local tank is running fine against everything I've been told not to do. My fun. Better to learn about the pests, recognize them, and deal with it. Watch, watch, watch!
If you think your dry rock will help getting no pests, wait to you go to that LPS, see a coral you must have, buy it, dip it, QT it, and see what else you bought.
It's a funny hobby.......you buy what you like, you get a whole bunch of stuff you didn't pay for.
There's no way to keep a totally clean pest-free system, it's un-natural. The experience will teach and train you, period.

Ouch, I will go with dry rock . Did u purchase yours online or LFS , writing a list of all possible places too look at.
Great topic, but it's hard to concentrate. I'm watching the VS fashion show, or models in underwear.

Not really.. With good dipping and quarantining, the chances of acquiring a pest are so much lower than if you just add 100 pounds of rock to your tank from the LFS. Its all about odds. like condoms are 98% effective and recommended lol
