I bought 25 lbs of live rock....dead coral I believe from the fugi islands....it seems like it is covered in dead skin and looks bad up close...all the shedding is moving on the rocks....I don't like the look of it...is this normal? can I do something to make it look better?

not sure how to upload a pic...I tried it but it didn't seem to work.

these pictures were when I first put in the sand and live rock...it is much clearer and cleaner now...still not crystal clear...I need to get a filter and skimmer.

yes it worked, i cant see the smile but if you are just setting up you tank i wouldn't worry because everything it going to cycle. what size tank it is? sometimes when stuff ships the algae starts to die on the rocks. i would make sure that there is o livestock in there also

all I have In It right now Is the heater and circulation pump....I will get a filter and skimmer soon ,I just want to keep It as simple as I can for now..

ok cool, just let the tank cycle and watch the ammonia and nitrite levels and make sure that you do regular water changes :) what size tank it is ? oh and make sure that there is good flow on the live rock so that particulates don't build up!!

I don't think anything looks out of the ordinary with the rock, it doesn't look fully matured yet, but appears to be on its way being so. I think your water quality will improve as you upgrade the filtration system. Are you using RO/DI? The quality of water you use also goes a long way in helping to keep your tank free of unwanted bacterial growth

I don't know the integrity of the store your getting your mix from, but I personally would rather mix my own. I would invest in an RO/DI unit, new if possible, but if your looking to keep cost down You can find a lot of used RO/DI systems out there for a fraction of the cost of a new unit, just make sure the filters don't have to be changed, you will know the filters are still good if you get a TD reading of 0PPM.
