live rock ?

I'm planning on getting a 125 gal tank for fish only. I want to add some live rock, but 125lbs will be expensive. So I wanted to add some Caribsea life rock and wanted to know how will i know when its live ?

You can also pick up dry rock which is usually much less expensive and cure it or let it seed in the tank while cycling. Also, the 1lb/gal recommendation is NOT a rule. I certainly don't have that much in my tank.
