Live Rock

I recently bought an IM NUVO 20 and are about to set up. I have some live rock that I had in my 29 gallon that I broke down. The thing that the rock has green algae all over if. Should I put that rock in my new 20 gallon NUVO tank or get new rock? The rocks have been outside of water for about week drying out. What should I do?

Others may have a different view, but I'm probably more cautious than most. I would cure it if I were to use it again or buy new. I wouldnt classify it as live rock anymore if it has been drying out.

I would buy new rock. If you want a lot of diversity and great rock tryout Tampa bay saltwater one of the best

I agree. If it has been setting out and drying all week then there are dead algae, microbes and other stuff on it. Once you put it back in it MAY release the dead biomatter into your water and add to your nitrates. You can put the rock in a bucket and add in your water change water to it so it can help release a lot of those things that died in/on the rock. I would probably do this if the rock is a unique piece and for a week or two.

It’s a pretty cool sight. It increases porosity. And decreases weight.
