just purchased a case of live rock, really was not sure what i would get, these things are huge...short of dynamite and a sledge hammer, is there any easy way of breaking these things down, its eco rock, seems to crumble easy, tho i maybe wrong, any help would be great....thnxs

Hello,

@Big G is so high tech. Not familiar with eco rock, but I’ve dropped bigger pieces on the ground and rolled the dice how it sheared. If it crumbles easy maybe just a drop from low, if it’s solid out the 2 nd floor window I say.

But, seriously big g is right. A few taps with hammer and chisel give more accurate size so you don’t end up with 1 small rock and a boulder.

I didn’t see a mention of a build or rockscape coming. Anything you want to share? I like pics.

I have yet to see a piece that a 3 lb hammer can't shrink for you. Also some saw blades can cut rock. You could even use a hacksaw with tungsten carbide teeth, which are better equipped to cut through hard stone (this will be a lot like exercise)

never made it to the second story, did drop from chest high, took a silly bounce, got me from knee to ankle 33 stitches.....theres your laugh for the day, and i,m sure i,ll be called everyname in the book, so bring it on....also didnt break

That's some bad luck for sure. And I'm sure that's how it would turn out for me too. I've had the same happen with landscape rocks, but no stitches. Just lumps and bruises.

To anyone using the hammer and chisel route, it works well. Just make sure you use eye protection at the least. I've had debris get me in the eye when doing this.

Thanks for your honesty! A cautionary tale for the rest of us.

So now we can add "Rock Mason" to the list of trades you probably never figured on having to be proficient at when you saw a picture of a fish tank with a clownfish.

1) plumber
2) electrician
3) carpenter
4) veterinarian
5) microbiologist
6) Mason
7) ER Nurse

of course, this list could go on and on
