I just received my 40lbs of nature's ocean live sand from Dr Foster and Smith. When I opened the box I noticed that the sand and water in it were frozen. Prior to receiving I was able to use the tracking number and saw that it got delayed due to crazy conditions. I live in Alabama and not that bad here. I'm worried that any bacteria could die off or any other problems. Should I still be good?

The bacteria doesn't do well frozen. :/ You may want to see if you can get a refund or replacement. Extremes either way are harmful.

Called Dr f and s and they b said that it's no problem. Then called my LFS and he said it does kill some but u should be good. So I'm gonna just use it and then rest it regularly and add some bacteria to boost if it's needed.

the bacteria should be fine. it may have had some die off bust most of it lies dormant.

Honestly, from what I understand (some may disaggre), that the live sand isn't really live sand. It's just wet sand.

I mean how do you know that sand didn't freeze on it's way to Fosters or maybe it was on the truck on a 100 degree day. Changes are, there isn't much life in there anyways.

That's my .02. I bought live sand for my first tank, but I wouldn't buy it again.

Well I went with it and set up the tank. So I guess it will see.
