I was also getting mold early in the stages of my culture since I didn’t have enough white worms to consume the bread so I buried it in the soil amd that eliminated my mold issue. Now I have 4 cultures going strong and they eat the bread yogurt yeast within a few days and I no longer have to bury. All my cultures are put in a mini wine fridge.

These are what mine usually look like...these have been going since May.

These cultures were all fed 2 days ago amd all the bread is almost gone already

The great thing about powdered food is you can judge and only put as much as the worms will eat.

Mine lived in the dirt too. It was a pain picking them out. When I started laying the paper towels in and putting the food on it they crawl onto the towel and are easy to catch.

I did the yogurt/bread/yeast thing. This works so much better for me.

Thanks, think I’ll try this instead. The way I’ve been doing it I thought was okay, until I see these massive amounts of worms!

I have 4 cultures going right now. I previously screwed up and had 2 cultures that had so many dang worms daily that it crashed hard.

Moving forward once I get to the point of mass harvest I will continue to setup new cultures. I still feed wheat bread with full fat yogurt and nutritional yeast. I don’t mind feeding every 3 days and I bury the bread to avoid the mold

I just started my cultures today! Found a Mico fridge that I can store them in since the wine chiller was definitely off limits. Small cultures but enough for feeding my one tank couple times a week.

Agreed, those things will crash quick in that container.

I made the switch to cat food about 6 months ago and it has made my life way easier! The worms still crush it and I’m able to feed plenty. It also takes longer to mold out.

Looking good. I would get larger containers and split into 2 cultures just
In case it crashes you don’t lose them all.
I would if I could, the Micro fridge I have only fits containers 5.25 x 5.5. I'll just have to keep a close eye on it.

My worms always stay in the dirt, but I have a lot of them. I get a decent amount of mites so I flood the container and pour it out to get rid of them.

What I have discovered is after about an hour of disposing of the mites the worms all come to the top and all over the sides of the container to get out of the saturated soil. I then harvest them off the sides, and throw a little more dirt in to dry things up some.

I'm still using the bread/yogurt/yeast method.

I'll have to try some of the other methods recommended on here.

I've heard the catfood works great, but do you think it would limit some of the nutritional value of the worms? I thought the idea of the mixture was to essentially turn the worms into a Probiotic for the fish.

I still do the wheat bread yogurt and yeast method. It works for me. I tried with cat food and algae wafers but they don’t touch that. I keep breaking up cultures and have like 7 going

I lay my cultures on the ground then dance around playing a flute until all the worms climb out and follow me to my tank. :)

I read no mention of this in your book, Paul! It was mostly about playing flutes around French Ladies...

Quicklynx, my book is mostly written in code and you have to know Latin and Swahili to get the really important information. I don't even understand much of it.
