Liveaquaria fish shipment with Cold Packs?

Hi All,

Just got a shipment from divers den today, and noticed that the box had two ice packs in it?

Is this normal I would think you would want heat packs in the box for marine fish?

Sadly one of the 3 Anthias I ordered didn’t survive. Did the water get too cold?

It’s summer time so they start to ship with ice packs instead of heat packs
Did you see what the temp of the bag was ?

I always check incoming temp. My last DD shipment arrived with two cold packs and the fish bags were 76 degrees. Sounds about right.

Summer. I will say that I received a shipment from them also today and noticed the cool packs. Fish arrived perfectly fine and acclimated with 0 issues.

Wish I could say the same for the poo head Lavender Tang who decided to go rogue. Otherwise excellent fish but did not take a liking to the copperband and is relentless. Lavender is out the door. But to your point weather is warmer so they have to keep the fish cool. If your fish didn't make it through shipping I'd wager it wouldn't have made it through anything else. LA will take care of it although I'm sure you wish you had three instead of two.

I base my orders around the weather as well. Have to for better success.

Of course ice pack especially in the summer time. Fish likely to survive cold than heat.

Thanks for the reply’s I would have loved to open the bags to check the temp but I didn’t . I float the bags for a while a hour to insure temp is the same as my QT and then I make sure the salinity is the same and quickly transfer to the QT to minimize any ammonia spike exposure. I hope two Anthias will be ok

You may want to put a mirror in front of your tank... it helped my fish get along...

It worked for my Purple Tang and Flame Angel. They are best buds now!

This is why I have a infrared thermometer so I can shoot the bag and get temperature without opening the bag. In my experience temperature within the bag and QT tank usually stabilize within about 15 minutes of floating.

I love Lavendars! Such underrated Tangs. Yes try the mirror trick. I have 3 Lavendars in my 300g.

It is a beautiful fish. It reminds me of a nice properly stored Cab . Only gets better with age - lol. No, really. This fish was purchased from LA about two years ago. Didn't look like much but I read enough about it that it sounded like a good fit. Very healthy. Well rounded fish that gets along well with my Scopas. Started out a light brown / rust color and now a more lavender blue. The fins have a blue base and the scalpel is ringed with black. Loves all forms of algae and aggressively eats GHA. I was feeding live Tang Heaven macro algae and it went ballistic for it. He went through it all.

As I said today he just turned for the worst and I have no way of separating them. And while I know it is always a possibility of fish going rogue I wouldn't have expected the Copperband to trigger him or her. Go figure. But yes. A very under rated tang and not often seen when compared to the others . Then again my previous tang was the Lt. tang . So always outside the normal yellow, purple, and kole.

You have three? Wow - I bet that is sight to see. Mine is in a 210.

I've seen too many tanks with multiple yellow tangs. I got tired of seeing them lol. I decided to try 3 Lavendars... they constantly fought at first. 2 of them kept fighting and getting injured daily it seems. That went on for a good 3-4 months until now. Now they don't really fight anymore. They just get chased by my Achilles from time to time. My Achilles is the big bad bully of the tank.
