LiveRockDaddy's 14g Build

You probably didn't need to add the turbo start if you have live rock since it already has the bacteria...also you'll probably wanna invest in better test kits as well as a refractometer
That does not look like live rock. Way too clean.

That's what I thought as well but I wasn't going to contradict OP since he knows where it came from and all o know is what he told me. I think it's LFS live rock that's been in the vat with bottled bac maybe?

I’ve noticed a lot of companies selling “Life” rock, trying capitalizing on the benefits of live rock, when in reality it’s literally just dry rock. True live rock would have some color to it. OPs looks like it just had a dental whitening treatment!

It was in an established tank, other rocks definitely had some life in it/to it. When I called the store regarding my tank levels and to see if he had any percs/ocs, He did confirm that the rock obviously wasn't fully cultured, and it was just put in the Saturday before purchase (Monday). It WAS dry rock, but was making it into live rock. That's all :)

The ugly stage has begun. making progress. CUC is being assembled.

4x small hermit crabs
3x Astrea Snails
2x Turbo snails

Had my heater go down overnight - this morning's temp was 69.5! Quickly threw the back up in and my fish are now comfy cozy. Phew!

Can someone help identify? They seem to be holding on to tiny air bubbles as well (can’t get a good picture). Algae? Normal? Thanks!

Thanks for posting the new photos! My guess would be some type of dinoflagellates. This article (see below) goes into some great detail about these. You may want to wait for a second source, though, since I’m very much a novice in this hobby.

Some more ugly going on. Hair algae.

I have 50 some cerith snails arriving in the mail today to help address detritus and algae in my crevices. Too nervous to add a hermit to the tank.
I’m thinking of running to the store to get some today instead of waiting on shipping. At least they’ll have a smorgasbord to feast on.

CUC is here!

2 red and 3 blue hermits of different sizes,
4 astrea snails.
