Hello fellow reefer,

I have a lobo and acan with a decent amount of green algae growing on them. I wanted to know if these corals can handle a hydrogen peroxide dip like zoas or will this type of dip kill the corals? If anyone can provide me some assistance I'd appreciate it. I do have a phosphate chamber and protein skimmer but the skimmer has been on the fritz for a little so it haven't been running. The try and combat this I've been doing weekly water changes but still see more green algae growth then I'd like.

Appreciate the advise

I have tried dipping in the past to remove algae and it did more harm than good imo. Scrub with a toothbrush without harming any adult/baby polyps or use your fingernails.

Get the tank water back in line and the algae will go away. I just watched my buddy's corals while he moved. His corals were covered in hair and some had briopsis. After about 2 days in my tank there was no sign of any algae on the corals. He came over to see as he couldn't believe it. After he moved his tank he decided to remove the old sand and found out that there was a lot of built up poop in there even thou he had been trying to keep it clean with water changes. One key for my tank not having algae is I run bare bottom. I also have power heads that turn on pointing under my rocks once a day to blow out any detritus build up. It blows around the tank into the overflow and sock which is changed 3 times a week. I have not done a water change in over a year with corals growing like weeds mostly sps and acans. I would say you are probably over feeding the tank and don't have enough export in nutrients to slow or stop algae from growing.

I just conducted my first peroxide dip on an acan and it took it really well. I had a persistent patch of algae on the plug and it came right off. I was also surprised at how many poor astrea starfish I killed. The acan was fully recovered in about two hours.
