Lobophyllia Appreciation

For me, it is mainly about the shape of Lobophyllia that draws me in, but once they are happy and color up, they display amazing color patterns as well. This guy was so unassuming when I put it in a month ago. Now it is finally showing it's true potential. I am thrilled.

See I am terrible at IDing these types of corals! LFS said lobo but they have led me astray before. . .

Regardless, lobos are very beautiful corals!

I got my first lobo this week! It’s orange/gold in person and I can’t photograph it properly but this is pretty close

My one and only, but plan on getting a few more from my LFS once I see some that strike my eyes. The one I have I am very happy with. Grew a lot quicker than I anticipated. Started him on the sand bed but now on a rock and seems to be happy. He gets very deep bright orange after he is fed. Underside is a bright green but the only time I see a little of the underside is when he is fed and curls up a little.
Some of his mouths are getting hard to feed because some are now facing downward.

Mine could be a Acanthastrea Pachysepta but I will trust my very reputable LFS that say's it's a Lobo. Even after they saw a photo a few weeks ago when I was showing them some tank photos. Some of the bigger heads are 4" in diameter which would be unusual for a AP from what I have read and the coral has never extended any filaments even when I had it in proximity of my 22 head Duncan.
If it is a AP then so be it. I like it either way.

This is most likely a homophyllia bowerbankii, you can tell by the skin texture. and skeletal formation.

Definitely a Wellso; Skin texture and coloration tell me that outright.

Acanthastrea pachysepta was considered Lobophyllia until a few years ago, and a lot of people are unwilling to accept the change. Pachysepta almost always has the orange to purple fade, while Lobophyllia hemprichii has a rougher skin texture & more variable coloration. Though if it isn't attacking the duncan its more than likely an L. hemprichii.

As for lobos, I have never owned one but have been searching for the perfect solid red one for years. It's hard to find a red one without blue or green mouths, which I really don't like the look of.

This is my acan pachysepta and each “head/polyp” is quite large. It has never attacked my micromussa right by it but has its filaments out every night.

Well whatever mine actually is I like it but to be on the safe side I will keep other corals away from it. He has been on his own rock for awhile now. Nice coral whatever the scientific name is lol. What color is the underside of that coral?
This hobby is getting a little confusing with all the recent scientific name changes. Just watched a video from Tidal Gardens and all these name changes seem to be a normal and frequent thing over the past few years.

A couple photos just taken with blue flashlight. Lights have been off for almost 4hrs.
