Yes. I had one that did a great job of getting rid of turf algae that was overrunning my tank. But it also took out way too many corals. The last straw was when it took out my favorite plate coral.

They will even much into euphyllia skeletons too in my experience. Green star polyp will disappear.

Got stung once too. Really cool urchins, but I won't keep them in tanks with lots of coral!

I got my finger stuck by a spine of a Long Spine Urchin. I had night sweats and chills and ended up in an emergency room; (red streak ran up my arm from a Streptococcus bacteria). I'd say, not worth the risk.

We keep ours in the refugium. He was almost our first organism purchase for our very first tank. He started knocking too many things over and eating things.. so now he controls algae on the walls of the refugium.

I got stuck badly a few months ago and the spine was too deep to remove. My finger bled a lot which may have helped prevent infection. I soaked my finger in peroxide followed by very warm salt water to help prevent infection setting into the wound. I then soaked my finger in vinegar which dissolved the spine. I was lucky.

What about tuxedo urchins? I've never had an issue with it eating anything except an algae covered Oregon tort branch which had rtn'd which recovered quickly (I was very grateful). I have handled it before without issue... It did a great job on turf algae and only eats coralline algae and other less desirable kinds.
