Need some help with my dilemma..
My yellow watchman Goby didn't not got affected by the velvet that killed both my clown fish 3 weeks ago ..now new clowns are in qt and I am trying to go 6 weeks with zero addition to Dt other then goby is still in there..impossible to catch.lol he is eating well super happy no sign of velvet on him whats so ever ..I know corals and my inverts can't be affected but will he be carrying the velvet. Doesn't make sanse as velvet should get him as the only fish in the tank not to starve ..or those guys are like eels and don't get velvet ?
It is a 15 gallon nano all I want is my couple clowns back rest is doing great ..thank you in advance

Although resistant to ich and velvet, watchman gobies Can contract ich. The purpose of fallow is to remove all fish and ceasing any possibility of surviving cysts and trophants.
A fish trap is a near sure bet to getting goby out of tank.

Are you confident of your diagnosis? Velvet, Amyloodinium is misdiagnosed very often. One of the key symptoms is 100% mortality, so I’m wondering how the goby survived with no treatment.

Thank you for the replay Jay.
I am new to to the reef tanks but not new to fish keeping have been breeding selling keeping african cichlids for years .
My diagnosis is based on 2 factors maybe I am wrong . First is countless white spots on both clown fish about 2 days after I put them in and second the fact they stop eating after about 2 days since the first spots appear and death within 3 days from the first spots appearing.
Watchman Goby never had spots eating perfect guarding his buddy piston shrimp and its been 23 days since the white spots appear on both clowns

Actually, that sounds more like Ich, Cryptocaryon. There are some pictures here labelled as "fish with velvet" that are actually just advanced cases of ich. Without a microscope, you can never be 100% sure, but here is how I typically see velvet: the fish begin breathing faster, then they stop feeding, then they begin to breath open mouthed and swim into water currents. They may develop glassy eyes and a light dusting on their skin at that point. Death typically occurs within 48 hours of the onset of symptoms. If you see spots and then the fish stops feeding, it is usually ich.

Either way - with the goby in the tank, it may still be harboring a chronic case of parasites, so any new fish you add could be at risk. The typical process is to remove all fish and let the tank run fishless for 45 to 76 days.

Thanks alot.. I have 2 new clowns in qt and meds ready just incase ..I will try to go 76 days with the goby and ad them since it's been 23 already ..in case of the break out I will get all 3 of them out and treat them and go same 76 with no fish.

I'm dealing with a similar situation: an affliction yet-to-be-identified has taken out all of my fish EXCEPT my Watchman Goby. This has happened twice.

My draft diagnosis is Amyloodinium (Velvet), but still TBD.

How'd you get your fish out?
