long hair algae where to start

My tank has been going about 6 months and all of a sudden we have started growing long hair algae, as well as it seems as if I am wiping off the glass more than normal.

The first thing I did was slow down on the feeding and turned up the protein skimmer my test kit shows 0 phosphates but to me that is what it seems like

I use rodi water

I thought about getting some seachem phosguard putting it in a bag in the media basket

I don't have room for a reactor I know this would be ideal

any ideas what to do is the phosguard the way to go

Phosgaurd last 4-5 days max. You gotta stay up on it. You could use peroxide, but you still have to keep nutrients down for long term success.

You've got phosphates & nitrates, but the algae are sucking them out of the water column before they reach your test kit.

makes sense what should I do to control them

The only two things I know of that can do that are increased nutrient export (skimming, algae-harvesting - from the DT, Algae-scrubber, or refugium with chaeto/caulerpa in it) or reducing the amount of nutrient entering the system; feed less. (hard to do, when it's so much fun to watch them eat!)
