I got some live rock about 2-3 months ago and apparently it was full of urchins. Probably gonna take them out just to be safe. The count is up to 4 now. Anybody actually keep these in their reef?

Orthokardia had a HUGE one in his 300. While they can be model citizens, you need to be carefuly around htem so you dont get a spine in your hand.

I've had one in my 55 for over 2 years now..amazing cleaner..keeps the rocks clean like nobodies business lol..mine doesn't demolish coraline like some people claim, and it will very rarely munch the edge of some encrusting sps until he realizes it doesn't taste right haha

If you do end up getting stung, pour vinegar on it, and let it be..in a minute or two it wont even hurt anymore..don't bother digging the spine out as your body will do its job and absorb it..

I would not keep more than one though as it might be hard to keep them fed..mine doesn't eat algae sheets though some people claim they do..

Whew my thumbs are tired lol

Thanks for the info jonny. I will definitely be getting rid of some then. Solar just let me know when and one is yours. As long as they behave I will keep one but there will be 2 up for grabs.

No problem, glad I could help..one big thing I forgot earlier is, these guys are up there with turbo snails when it comes to bulldozing...I've got like 400lbs of putty on all my frags lol

I will keep a eye on them around my frags. Just let me know when you want one and I will try to catch one.

This was my first ever livestock I bought for saltwater! He's still rocking out in my tank 2 years later. These guys are very hardy. Ive never once had him knock frags over or taste test any of my corals...somehow. If I didn't already have one I'd definitely get one from you.

Great info I've been up in the air on getting one. My bulldozers seem to be slacking lately.

On a side note, do they eat feather dusters? My tank has a zillion I know some people like then but IMO I don't like the look of them.

Might have never bothered anything. They come out at night and tightly wedge themselves in the rock during the day.
