Long stalks on zoas

Sorry for bringing back up this old thread but your the only post I could find of fragging long stem zoas. I have plenty of long stem (pretty nice) zoa types. I wanna make a couple bucks off these guys. What happends to the cut part still attached to the rocks? I just gave it a try and cut one thanks to this thread. Pink cat eye palythoa.

I didn't know you could do this, I always thought you had to get the base as well for them to survive.

Well I just did a "test" one to see how it fairs. I guess time will tell.

They get long stems when they are reaching for light- I would move them higher in the tank

The thing is I have a zoa garden rock with some long stem and others are matting tight to the rock. I have a 6 bulb t5 and atinic led lights supplemented...when I first got the pink cat eye it was a long stem. When I first got my rastas they where tight to the plug. That was almost a year ago and I have a colony of both now and they have grown the same. Pink cat eye long. Rasta short.

So far so good. I went well with my pink cat eye so I also fragged 1 purple monster and utter chaos. I took these pictures just now and my utter chaos is not open atm but its definitely alive. Here is a picture of my cat eye and purple monster....

Awesome, thanks for the update. Definitely gonna try this. Kind of worried about doing it on my more toxic palys though. I've read horror stories about cutting through the polyp and palytoxin.

Well something I haven't mentioned that maybe I should have.....my zoa garden is growing on a rock that is pretty large and is a base rock for other rock structures in the tank..sooooooo, I have been fragging/cutting these zoas IN the tank. Once the polyp is cut and free catch it with my hand then use a tweezer (big flat tips) to hold the polyp while I place it on the plug that has a drop of glue on it

Yeah! ! have always seen sunnys D,s with long stalks. I think it looks kind of cool! I have some on order! Anyone know of any other long stemed zoas? Is aw some bowtie blasters at my lfs today and they were tall and big polys but she wanted to much money for only 2 of them! I also in the market for big polyp zoas or palys!
