Long stem zoas

I've got like 12 different sub species of zoas in my tank. All growing well, some on the sandbed, low rocks, mid tank, top tank, etc... this big patch in the middle of my tanks has really taken over like a weed. The one thing that fascinates me about these is they have like 4 inch stems. It's almost like a huge gonipora coral now. They get plenty of light so it's not them extending for more par. It's just that they have long stems as compared to my other low level zoas that hug the rocks. They do get pretty good flow so they sway back and forth.

Anyone else have zoas with long 4 or 5 inch stems?

It’s generally the larger polyped Zoanthus, such as Z. vietnamensis and kuroshio, that have long stems, so I’m not surprised that they would have long stems.

They do have larger polyps then my other zoas. I don't know the name though.

Mine aren't reaching for light. They are in 200 par. But yes zoas can extend if they are light deprived.

200 par but for how long? Maybe give them a few more par over the same time or the same par over a longer time and see what happens.

10 hours. These have been growing solid in my tank for almost 2 years now. Light is not the issue. They are just a sub species with long stems.

I can’t identify Zoanthus down to the species. Just giving a guess.
