I recently purchased a LTA, but can't get him to settle in the sand bed, or wedged against a rock. So far he's only successful in getting hung up in a powerhead. I've nearly shut down water movement just to avoid killing it.

Would I do irreparable harm if I used a small needle and thread to attach his foot to a small rock, and then bury the rock in the sand bed? I would only do it to assist him in getting settled and not floating into powerheads which I need to get going again.

Thoughts and/or advice? Thank you.

I wouldn't. 2 reasons. You can damage the foot if not 2nd reason it's moving because it's not happy at this location. Either is flow or light. Let it settle on it's own where it needs to be or just bury the foot in sand and hope it stays. Add powerhead covers to protect it from getting killed.

I had mine for about 3 weeks and I think it barely started to settle for the mean time I had it in a low flow area with some small rocks around it.

Could you give some more info over your tank ..
Is it a new tank
What are your parameters
What light is it under ..
Can you see if it’s foot is damaged?
Can you take some pictures of the foot ?
