Today I found it unburried and the column looks like this? Split? Am I killing it? It keeps stretching and contracting at this point, its gets very narrow during this process.

Can post params tomorrow if need be.

Ok so it turned itself around to face the light but is still un buried. Should I leave it alone or dig a hole and bury ita column in about 4 inches of sandbed?

Try digging a depression in the sand near the base of a rock and place it's foot in there. Turn off your powerheads for 15-30 minutes while it attaches and you should be good to go.

It unburried itself and went back to the same spot

Then bury the foot in the spot that it moved to, it should be happy in that general area. If it moves again after that, I would suggest you test your water to see if there is anything off that may be triggering the move.
Good luck!

Redid the rock work giving it a deeper sanded. Reburried it and its now digging itself deeper. Thanks!
