How do people get their torches to exhibit the long tentacles like I see online? I’ve had a gold torch for a few months now and it’s forming a 3rd head but the tentacles are only maybe an inch and a half long on a good day. I’m not too into euphyllia, mostly an SPS guy, but I do really like the look of a gold torch waving around.

How you tried increasing or decreasing the flow to the coral. Mine always showed more PE in lower flow than my sps appreciated.

My tank is SPS dominant so it usually has a good amount of flow. I moved it to one of my lower flow areas for a few weeks and it didn’t seem to look nicer. It doesn’t seem unhappy where it is right now, has nice color and does wave around and eat, but I love the long look.

Do you have a pic?

My torch had 1.5” tentacles at the lfs and once in my tank they extended to about 3” in a couple weeks. I found to get it the happiest I needed a random medium flow. If the flow was dominant from one side it would only half extend.

The indo strain usually exhibits longer tentacles. However, polyp extension will vary with the specimen, as lightning and flow in our tanks are highly variable.

I would not try to chase anything in particular-keep an eye on color and growth and that's all you gotta do.
