Long time lurker first time caller RS 3XL 900

Haha thanks for the warm welcome! Here are a few more pics of the basement corner I have taken over :). I forgot to mention above but my goal with this setup is complete automation for up to two weeks so we can take a long vacation with minimal intervention and thus far I think I will achieve that goal!
Very nice!

Hey everyone!

I have kept fish ever since I was 5 years old and been keeping a reef tank for the last 8 years. Converted my 75g from an African Cichlid tank to a mixed reef and last year upgraded to the RS 900 (which also involved moving the tank and livestock from FL to NC in November 2019).

First off I want to thank the community. I have been lurking on these boards for years and you all have provided a ton of helpful advice. Everything from Humblefish's guide to diseases, infections, and treatments, Tidal Gardens QT methods, Revhtree's Apex guides, Randy's dosing methods, NSA scaping etc... you all have helped me during planning, design, build and the inevitable crises that come along with this hobby and I am extremely grateful.

As for the update on the tank, the 900 has been up and running for the better part of a year. I am going for the holy grail of SPS dominant mixed reef and think I have finally worked out most of the kinks and getting closer to cruise control to be able to stop tinkering and start enjoying the tank :) . My plan is to have a slightly heavier stocked tank focused on Tangs and Wrasses.

HW
RS 900 3XL
Customized the sump to include Clarisea 5k roller, huge Fuge, oversized Octo skimmer, Pentair 80w UV, Abyzz return pump, Neptune Apex controller, DOS for AWC and dosing, WC station, Kessil 700s in a custom fixture, Ecotech MP40s & 60s, Icecap gyres, Avast Marine Plank and Barrel Tender (with plans to add a spyglass reactor) and Octo calcium reactor (once my SPS gets to the point where the DOS can't keep up with the intake. Custom Clearview lid. Also built a Phyto station to keep the pod population up.

Corals
SPS from Battlecorals
Lots of Zoas, mushrooms and LPS from WWC (back when I lived in FL)

Fish
Bartlett, Disbar, Blotchy and Lyretail Anthias (thank you Michael at NY Aquatic)
Wrasses include Royal, Sailfin flasher, Melanurus, Crescent tail (planning to add a Leopard, Labout and Rhomboid in the future)
Red Mandarin
Black Cap
Coral Beauty Angel
Flame Hawk
Green Clown Goby
Blonde Naso, Gem, Sailfin, Purple, Hippo and Powder Blue Tangs (thank you TSM)

If I can help anyone on the forum be successful in this hobby please reach out. With all of the great advice I have received from here over the years it only seems right to pay it back any way I can. Cheers and happy reefing!

Welcome! Glad you joined.

Have you considered starting your build thread? I found its a great place to document my tank's evolution for myself. I started tank first then joined, so I'm still finding myself going back collecting pictures & updating historically as well as current state. Once you create your first post in your thread and link it to your account, they will give you build badge (look left, under my ID). With all the info and pictures in this thread, you've already got your information for build thread - just need to create post (cut & paste from here to) under Forum > member's aquariums > size...

This is a good reference book type online article I still review:

Hey Attiland! I fully planned on starting a build thread but unfortunately I smashed my phone on a roller coaster by accident and lost all of the pics. That said I am happy to help folks if the have questions on plumbing conversions, fitting the roller in the sump, building the stand etc..

I am still waiting on a company that specializes in data retrieval to see if they can salvage my photos.

If they can't, use a photo of the roller coaster to start the build thread :):).
