Overall I am deciding between a UNS 90B (36" x 8" X 8") or a UNS 60S (24" x 14" x 7"), I'm guessing the shallower tank would be better. They are both around the same price so really the only difference is ~2 gallons and overall surface area

Shallow tanks can be very cool. This is a modified frag tank I once fooled around with— 6’ long but only 10” of water to the overflow.

What is your end-game in terms of desired aquascaping? Fish? Corals? I would really have things planned out well in your mind before making a final decision. Best wishes!

with 36x 8" it is very narrow so hard to scape but if u can get tonga branch rock it could look amazing, only around 10 gallons though so just 1-2 fish, or maybe 2 micro gobies (neons or golds but a pair) and either 1 clownfish or 1 firefish something small. To light it I would use either 1-2 orphek or3 bar (i think they still do custom but white should look good if you arent into a super blue tank) if aiming for higher par use one blue and one white bar. Other options would be the fluval marine reef 3.0 for an LPS with sps in the top 3". You want something like a bar to light this as traditional lights will have way too much light spill and look odd
Potentially a sweet nano build on your hands if you get one

Yup, the 24x14" is a more standard size so i would treat that as a normal nano aquarium, it could be lit by a standard light like radions, kessil, noopsyche, smat farms etc and it is still shallow so you wouldnt have to worry about par, just run the lights pretty dimmed down so you dont burn the corals

I think they just wanted an idea about what would be different in making the tanks, filtration will be the same but lighting and aquascape would be of huge importance to them
