Hi everyone!

I was wondering what is everyone's longest kept fish? How long have you had it and what kind?

Conversely, what is the shortest kept fish you've had? What happened?

I bought a harlequin tusk - tons of personality - great personality (for the 24 hours I had him) - Found him the second day on the floor (had pushed off the lid). It gets worse - I bought another one - same thing happened within 12 hours. Got a third one that ive had no problem with

The longest - hmmm a purple tang I've had for 10 years

Shortest period was a matter of hours...a naso tang came through acclimation well, only to get plastered to the intake grille of an MP60 overnight...was dead the next morning.

Longest was a tie between a coral beauty angel and a pair of ocellaris clowns. They were with us for about 8 years until I sold them two years ago in preparation to move.

Have a Marine Betta for the past 16 yrs... got it from a friend that was moving to Florida and said that he had it for 5 years.... very rarely have I ever seen him eat anything, but he’s alive and healthy!

do anenomes count ? 28 years in capitivity

Ironically the same type of fish are my longest lived and shortest lived.

Being a relative newcomer to the hobby my current Melanurus Wrasse is the reigning survival champ at just over 2 years. Conversely a larger male Melanurus I tried a couple of years ago lasted barely a week before falling victim to ich or velvet (not sure which).

Incidentally this is the long lived Wrasse as a juvie:

Here it is now:

Longest: my purple tang which I sold a few years ago. Had him about 4-5 years.

Shortest: 0 hrs. My leopard wrasse that arrived DOA. :)

In all seriousness, probably my foxface I bought a long long time ago. Minute I put him in my tank he sank to the bottom and died. Bad fish store. Took them 30 mins of chasing him to catch him. Stressed him beyond belief.

I have an Iridescent shark(Fresh water) for over 25 years now. He is about 1.5 feet now. For refrence I'm 36 only.
It is in a bit smaller not well kept tank (4 feet only)tank which i'm not proud of as it can't grow any bigger in it.
But I'm keeping it there for now as my father liked it didn't want to get rid of it. He passed away 1.5 years back so as a reminder i guess, i'm keeping it.

Shortest I guess was a Hill stream loach(Fresh water) I bought that died in 2-3 days. There was one already in the tank and I think he streesed him out by chasing it non stop.

So far every fish I bought for saltwater are still alive.

Longest lived was a YWG I had no idea was still alive that made it 10-11 years (cant remember exactly when I bought it). Hadnt seen it in at least three years if not four when I tore the tank down (we were moving) and he popped out wondering what was going on. Shortest was less than 24 hours but the worst was a McCosker's wrasse that didnt make it home from the LFS a couple months ago; that one really got to me as it was fine at the store so the dip-wad that caught it did something to it.

I had a Blue ribbon eel that was about 4' long and my shortest was a Gumdrop goby what was maybe 3/4ths of an inch in length.

I have one of my original clowns from when I first began to bumble my way through this hobby. That was a little over three years ago now.

When Biota first released their CB Swallowtail Angels, I got one. Just before work, I put the bag in the tank to acclimate. My gf released her into the tank. I spent the next 12 hours telling everyone how excited I was to come home to my new fishy.

I have a pair of GSM clowns that I have had for 20 years.
I once bought a Flame Angel at a lfs and when I got home it was dead in the bag.
