Hello everyone. I’m new to this hobby and i just recently got a longnose hawkfish about a little over a week ago now. he was getting used to the tank perfectly fine until a few days ago he started hiding more and he perches with his nose pointing to the cieling. Just wanting to know if this is normal behavior for these fish?

Be careful they can jump out the tank as well. Mine knows the food comes from the top so during feeding instead of paying attention to where the food is, it waits at the top and it jumped out once trying to get food. Luckily I was there but it’s dangerously close to the top. I’m going to have to make my top cover and put it on soon.

Update. woke up this morning to him dead :( any thoughts on why? I tested the water 2 days ago and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. I only have 2 clowns and a nem in a 32 gallon.

Sorry to hear, was it eating, in the sense that you saw him eat. I know mine is slightly dumb in that sense. While it will wait for the top for food it will ignore the food in the tank at times and the other fish will eat it in the meantime. Because they have a small long mouth I noticed it doesn’t easily eat certain foods, the clowns probably eat a lot faster than the hawk fish as well. It may have not been getting enough or maybe it was sick with something? They are nice to have though, they’re a character with their perching.

Totally normal

Fish die man. Just had a leopard wrasse number 2 die. It happens these things are plucked from the wild and most likely have parasites inside them that we cant see. And maybe they have a different environment from where they came from. This is why I’m not buying anymore expensive fish until my tank matures a lot more.

Thank you. I did see him eat i was feeding him frozen mysis thawed in some of the tank water and i’d see him actually eat it. The only thing i can think of is maybe the ph was too low? when i checked it a couple days ago it was at 7.8 and normally it’s at 8.0.
