Already happy to see you come home!

Whats he housed with? Just curious as I've been looking at getting one?
Also curious about what he is housed with.. aggressive non aggressive?

So far just a 5 year old yellow and blue damsel and Tomato Clown & some soft corals. Very interactive and non aggressive. Great addition to my tank.

Longnose and flame hawks are definitely my favorite among all hawkfish. Peaceful and generally a safer hawkfish with inverts.
As always, stole the words directly from my mouth. I love these two species.

My friend had one in his 40b and I had a flame hawk in a mixed 55g, they are awesome fish, lots of personality for sure. Both fish always got along with tank mates and were model citizens :D

unfortunately my friend's longnose took the term "hawkfish" too seriously and jumped one day :(

PS- that's a good looking specimen you have there, lovely fish

I love my pair. They perch on all my montis and gorgs:

Nice looking pair! Your monti looks a little bleached though. Check your no3 and po4. Those gorgs might be eating all the nutrients in the water column.

Thanks. I think that was just a bad photo, and also that was when I first added the monti. It's a nice deep purple now.

I just got a pixy hawkfish, he's in quarantine for a month, from what I have been told, similar in personality to the long nose and flame, just white with red spots. Can't wait to put him in the display tank which is a 110 gallon 60" tank. I hope he keeps some of the hermit crabs in check, they're little monsters, wandering around trying to eat each other and slow snails.

I've heard they can be aggressive towards other fish? Anyone have any issues with them in quarantine? I have 2 ocellaris clownfish and 2 Watanabe angelfish in 40 breeder. So far everyone is well behaved.

Had my longnose hawkfish a couple of years. Model citizen. I have generally nonagressive fish...2 clowns, yellow tang, hippo tang, Royal gramma, target mandarin, engineer goby, leopard wrasse, fairy wrasse. It leaves the inverts alone, and as others noted, they have great personality. It is fun to have a "percher" instead of a swimmer.

What? one post, two post , three post none ? I winged that one good ! any way I loved my longnose Hawkfish . However the fish was pretty smart. It would turn over the smaller snails, then when they stuck out the foot to right it's self , in a flash dart down and snatch it right out of it's shell. Cool to see but hard on the snails !

ps Thanks c212 for the heads up!

How small is small? Like all my nassarius snails are at most 3/8th inch long, are they dinner?

They were tiny nassarious. less than 3/8 for sure. The fish tried to mess with the larger snails and was left wanting. The small hermits were too quick for him. I also agree with Master B . Still a very cool fish.
