Look at what petco does to coral:(

This was petcos coral tank today....They all look so sad. I want to save them but am worried about what they could bring into my tank. Any of these that you can id from the one pic worth getting that are fun coral to grow?

The corals in the last Petco I went to looked the same. The wife had to talk me out of buying them all and putting them in my coral QT for rehab. They'll just bring more in to replace those and neglect them all the same. Endless cycle. So sad.

I feel the same way anytime i go inside petco. I had go stop looking in the tanks and just grab whatever medicine and leave. I forgot that process and saw they had a long tentacle anemone last week and it actually looked healthy. I was very pleased.

I still have a Finger leather and Clown fish from a pet co I purchased 7 years ago.

I see a couple leather coral on the rack and maybe a Duncan.

I get corals don’t have any feelings or feel pain but it’s a waste to have something like that die of neglect. Especially because it’s becoming scarce in the wild now.
It seems whenever you mix big companies with anything at all you usually lose a lot of quality control.

The petco near me has a horrible selection of corals. They're usually limited to leathers, some zoas, and every once in a while I'll see a bubble coral. I will say that their tanks and corals always look healthy, and the fish are generally pretty healthy looking. I think it depends on if any of the employees at the store care enough to take care of the animals and tanks, sadly many of them dont.

Sadly, most of the people that work at Petco don't have a clue when it comes to keeping saltwater tanks. Most of them are either in between real jobs or using it as a side gig whele going to school. I sometimes wonder if they even make a profit on saltwater coral and fish. They probably do it just to lure the parents with their children into the stores so they can knab that impulse buyer. I would imagine their profits come from the people buying salt equipment to try and keep nemo alive

Don’t buy them to “save” them, to petco it just looks like a sale and that will encourage them to get more in. The only way a big corporation would stop that mess is to loose money by them dying. It sucks but that’s the way it is.it the loose enough money they will stop carrying them

The best thing to do is to let them die unfortunately. If you buy them, the store will restock and the cycle will repeat. If you don’t, then you are essentially helping to put their saltwater sale out of business

if you buy them just to "Save" them and feel better, you have literally just paid the store to do what they did to the animal and give incentive to bring in more and do it over again.

Support Petco. They are clearly the government's choice for World pet suppliers. They are the future.

It’s their sales strategy. There’s so many bleeding hearts for every cause nowadays, they sell way more stuff by torturing their animals.

I've never seen any saltwater items in the Petco near me. My guess is that Petco only stocks things that are easier to care for. So if you can pick something up for the right price and rehabilitate it, then I think that's awesome.

I have felt like you before, wanting to “save” animals from petco. Truth is you are just supporting the Ill-treatment of many more as that part of their store is still then profitable or break even.
I would support hobby oriented vendors with your money and trust me the tank will look better for it and the hobby better off

There’s more dead livestock by the hands hobbyists then all petco combined, think about that...

Some petco's have issues but I am also seen threads on here that there is good petco's out there. I just think that overall it is a huge company and as with everything there is good an bad. I think it is a great option to support stores weather it is a petco or an LFS that does a good job and no support/ report stores that are not taking care of animals. My guess as many have mentioned some employee's don't care or don't have the knowledge to take care of the animals they are tasked with. I have a local Petco that has some great stock and a good aquatics person but if you go in there when that one person is not working others haven't a clue and would probably sell me a saltwater snail and tell me to put into freshwater tank.
