Good day everyone I was at my LFS and saw this beautiful Powder blue tang and wanted to know if you guys feel the price he’s asking for it is fair. I’ve been out of the game for a while and getting back into it. He’s asking $89 and it’s about 5”

tell me what you guys think have a great day

If it's really 5 inches, that would be a very good price. As others have said, make sure he's eating and run the full QT protocol with copper and prazi.

I personally wouldn’t if you’re only just getting back into the hobby. Start out with a better less disease prone tang such as a Ctenochaetus species.

yeah he fed the tang in front of me he's eating very well, and yeah its probably a little bigger than 5" the picture doesn't do it justice.

thank you for the advice I will look into those species as well I just always loved the PB tangs

If you have the right size tank then I do believe you can have one however I would personally wait and build up to the “Powder” tangs (Achilles, Goldrims, Powder Blues and Powder Browns). Maybe start with a smaller tang or slightly harder species of fish first off, maybe a fish prone to disease but not HIGHLY prone to disease.

Agree with everyone on the price. Make sure you QT as they are very susceptible to ick.

How old is your tank, what size tank is it, and what other tank mates are you putting it with?

Powder Blues can be more difficult than some of the others, but if you have a large enough tank for him to grow inmto and if you stick to the QT protocols and since the fish is already eating well, your odds are pretty good. If you are interesting in a smaller less expensive tang, convicts fit the bill. Not nearly as colorful but hardy and active has been my experience.

Powder Blue prices appear to be down a little over the past several months. I don't know if time of year has something to do with it or not. Several of the on-line vendors have PBs in this size range for about the same price.. I couldn't resist and order one a month ago.

Good luck.

I have a 250 reefer from Red Sea but I didn't get it he's still there but now im at a crossroads I was away so that's why I didn't get it but I cam back to find now that MY LFS has a Yellow Tank :eek: but not sure if what he's asking is a fair price tell what you guys think he's about the size of the powder blue maybe just a tad bit smaller and he's asking $300 is that too much for this tang. I know they have been impossible to get and I've seen the prices online so I am conflicted

Is that the 54 gallon tank? If so, that's not even remotely close to a large enough tank for a powder blue.

It looks like a fair price to me. One thing I would say is that "fair" is relative. If it's a fish you want (or anything really for that matter) and it's at or below the price you're willing to pay for it then that's the important thing. If you're not willing to pay the asking price even if it's at or near market value then I wouldn't purchase it. There are plenty of fish and corals that are priced very well according to the current market value but I'm not comfortable paying the price for it - even if it is technically a steal of a deal.

At the end of the day if it's what you want and it's worth it to you, it's your aquarium. Buy it and enjoy it!

I think it’s the 4x2x2’ tank but I could be wrong.

yeah the total display volume is 54 gallons and yeah I got him to sell me the tang for 250

My LFS prices tend to be high compared with what i see in other no so local store or online. So i say thats a good price for that guy.
Quarantine for sure tho.
