I found this giant algae bubble. I was moving my mag float and I knocked a frag over. I looked near the frag and something shiny caught my eye...

It sinks slowely in water, and is firm and bloated. It appears to be some sort of algae. Any thoughts?

You might want to reconsider putting the in a fowlr because if if pops it can spread tons of that into the system. A great consumer of that, emerald crabs, might not last if you have any consumers of shellfish in your tank, leading to manual removal which is a pain. Just a thought. That is one of the biggest bubbles I have seen.

I can beat that one, i had a pair of great barrier reef clowns lay eggs on ones bigger.

Laying some eggs

that was an old tank, i didnt do much on the tank cause those clowns would chew me up.

the female was about 5 inches and male about 4

Wow! I've never seen it anywhere close to size of either of those. Like secretreefer said above, I've seen pea-sized, but nothing much more than that.

+1 on being cautious.
If it pops it will send spores everywhere. Each one is a potential bubble.

You sir, have taken my cake.

Eggs on a bubble, how would that fair once the bubble explodes?
Unless eggs hatch before it explodes. Really don't see a benefit for them to lay eggs on it.

when I first started my reef I saw some at a pet store in their display tank there was a group of maybe 3 that were about the same size as a small cantaloupe the guy there told me they were a good algae as they took the nutrients away from bad algae I thought they were sooooo cool & hoped some would show up on my live rock by the time they did I knew better! same guy tried to sell me some aiptasia as a good beginner anemone

That only happens in Mississippi.

eggs

I was never able to collect the fry or eggs because of that.

Thats where they felt comfortable so you cant argue.
