Looking for a great deal on a ro/di 4-5 stage system with presure gauge. I had a BRS 75GPD 4 stage but sold it due to not having a spot to mount it plus I didn't have a booster pump to get the most out of it. Well, I just ordered a 100gpd booster pump so now Im looking for a great deal on a new unit. I know I can get the 4 stage BRS unit again and add the air pressure gauge for $10 but didn't know if someone knew of something better? Also as a side note, I already have a Dual TDS meter so Im good to go there. Thanks in advance for any input guys. Joe

Look at the vertex deluxe it has everything built into it, TDS and booster pump. The. You can return booster pump. I have one and love it. It also has automatic ro backwash when plugged in and every 2 hours of use. Unit will automatically shut down if you use a float valve

Oh wow I wasn't looking to spend that much. The pump cost me $75 shipped and was thinking another BRS 75gpd 4 stage with pressure gauge would be about $160 shipped so that's about where my budget is. I guess I answered my own question. BRS is probably going to be the best bang for the buck.

I got mine for cheaper that listed on the Internet through a LFS and it was about the same price as me adding on a booster pump. The nice thing was it was built as a system no need to alter a new unit.

I'll do some more searching around. If I can find a system with booster cheaper than what I would be paying now to piece it together, then ill try and return the pump I ordered. Id say anything over $225 total is going to be too much over adding the pump to a BRS system. Its a shame they sell the pumps for $140 or id have them put it together and ship it out. Lol

www.spectrapure.com They don't come any better and at only $125 any cheaper either. You wll not find an absolute rated sediment filter, a specially treated and batch tested 90 GPD high rejection rate RO membrane and specially blended reef specific DI resin like theirs anywhere else at any price. It all adds up to longer component life, better water quality and a lower cost of ownership.

Did you buy an Aquatec 8800 or a clone knockoff? Aquatecs are number one in the industry for a reason.

Here's what I bought because the price was right. I can't see spending over $100 for a pump.

Im going to take a look at the Spectrapure now. I have read about them before as I see that a lot of people are very happy with there product. And I assume that the BRS replacement filters will fit this unit as well?

Where do you see a system for $125? Link?

Joeyhatch11- When you open the spectrapure link AZDesertrat sent you, you will see the $125 Refurbished units he is talking about. I use one of the Vertex units i got used from another reefer. Paid $150 for it, but the Pump diaphragm froze up during shipping and work very well. I split the cost with the previous owner. So, i got mine for $200.

Well right now Bulkreefsupply has the 4 stage ro/di on sale for $116. If I add the pressure gauge and shipping Im at $144 shipped vs. the Spectrapure at $155. Although Im not ready to buy right now, I'll most likely go with the Spectrapure refurb when the time comes. Also the Spectrapure comes with 1 micro filters where the BRS unit is 5, but when it comes time to replace these filters, I'll most likely order them from BRS because the whole filter kit is only $22.

All I can say about that pump is you get what you pay for. Note all the RO vendors that have been around for more than 10 years use only Aquatec pumps, there is a reason for this and I'm sure any of them would be glad to tell you why.

The BRS systems are less expensive for a reason. Ask if they use absolute rated sediment filters to protect the carbon block, or if they specially treat the test their RO mermbranes so they perform better costing you less in DI replacements, or if the ycustom blend all of their DI resins in house based on thousands of hours of real world and bench testing? Or if they have use capillary tube flow restrictors, or if they have been in business for 27+ years strictly in the RO/DI business, or even 10 years? Again, there is a difference and you need to look far past saving $11 up front only to spend much much more over the llife of the system versus the Spectrapure. They are #1 for a reason, ask the thousands who own one.

The Spectrapure 0.5 not 5.0 micron absolute rated replaqcement filter kit is only $25 and filters 10 to 20 times better since it is 0.5 microns AND is absolute rated versus nominal rated. There is a difference.

Not to jack a thread, but youve sole me on the Spectrapure unit...once I get my tax return my rodi unit is going to be upgraded with this.

I too am going to go with the Spectrapure. Your right and I like the fact that the pressure gauge is built in on the unit and that the system itself comes with ,5 micron filters vs. 5. I'll just go with the refurb to save a little coin. Thanks again for all the info. Joe

Also Id like to add a tank you for the FAQ listed in your post. It was a interesting read.

I bought a SpectraPure 4-stage ro/di and a 100GPD booster pump, all of which will be installed and running tomorrow. Question is, is there such thing as having too much pressure going into the ro/di system? Im assuming my pressure will be around 30-40 ad with the pump see it boosted to around 80-90. But if it were for some reason were to be more than that, is there cause to worry? Thanks Joe

Yes and No.
RO membranes and filters are rated at 150 psi working pressure, it is the fittings and housings that may or may not be a weak point. Companies like Spectrapure use high quality ANSI/NSF and UPC approved and rated components so I would not be concerned. Some what I will call ebay quality vendors use clone or imported no name components and filters and I would be very hesitant to go above 60-80 psi in that case.

I have a Spectrapure MaxCap UHE-100 and I run my booster pump at 95-100 psi and have done so for over 5 years now with no issues. Most adjust them to around 80 psi using the adjustable set screw on the pump end.

I also just watched a video where you can adjust the flush kit valve to drop pressure as well. So I think if anything, ill go that route. With the booster pump installed, I assume ill be able to get a better ratio of waste to good water as well?

Everything is hooked up, I couldn't wait till tomorrow morning. Lol With the booster pump hooked up I'm getting about 77psi and without only 42. Getting a good 3:1 out of it too. The book says to adjust for a 4:1 but there website shows this unit as a 3:1 so I'm going to leave it as is.

nice deal on the Spectra refurbished units! Thinking of picking one up today.. the DI is the refillable kind, right?
Can a standard DI cartridge be used in this unit also?

Any standard 10" cartridge will fit in these systems but of course Spectrapure says to use only there's of it can void the warrenty. But on these refurbs there is no warrenty. Considering the cost and how often the DI has to be replaced, I think ill just buy a whole new cartridge rather than the DI resin.

Spectrapure offers a bunch of 4 stage models, is there any recommendation on what's the best? Or do they all get the job done the same for the most part?
