Looking for a fun addition to my tank

He is cool! If you had a bigger tank I would suggest looking into a snowflake eel, they really only mess with things smaller than them. But not sure if the octopus would mess with him, maybe others could weigh in on that. But Like I said you would at lease need a 70 gallon for the eel and octopus

Not to be rude, but PLEASE don't do this. Eels are the natural predators of octopuses, the octopus will be eaten within minutes, if not sooner. Octopuses can not and should not be kept with fish of any kind. Anything smaller than them they will eat, and anything bigger than the octopus will harass or eat it. With how smart octopuses are, to keep them with anything that will attack them is a terrible thing.

This is an article about octopus cohabitation which you should read @Rawsreef . I suggest you ask any questions on the forum there. It's pretty slow, but the advice you will receive will be correct.

@littlefoxx , don't give advice about things which you have done no research for. A three second google search would have found that eels eat octopuses. And, might I add, it could have also revealed that carpet anemones eat fish and that you need to quarantine sensitive species (like regal angelfish). Please do more research into things before you try to advise others. Thank you!

Sorry. I am on quite a bit of medication from an intense surgery must have misread after searching if they fit. To be honest I dont really remember replying to this thread… Appreciate you correcting me. Im not going to comment anymore since I cant reallly focus anyway on whats going on until Im better. My regal is in QT now, and I traded the carpet nem to the LFS, I thought it was a different type and not a haddoni. Apologizes I dont want you thinking Im just a idiot when it comes to this stuff. Again please dont think Im an idiot I just cant think clearly with my painkillers and anestesia I had yesterday. OP I apologize for giving you bad advice.

That's okay, didn't know about the surgery. Sorry if I was too harsh, but given how intelligent octopuses are, I felt rather strongly about this at the time I posted my response. Good luck with the angelfish, hope you're feeling better.

No I completely understand, I got super passionate when some guy on another form talked about super gluing a nem to a rock and feeding his fish chip crumbs. And thank you for wishing me better

Moray eels eat octopuses. I’ve kept several octopuses over the years. They usually only live about a year in captivity or in wild. Only safe tank mates are echinoderms and non stinging corals. Secure top is essential as they are escape artists. Also good filtration. Most will fight with own kind so generally kept solo.

Depends on the species of octopus. Some of the smaller species, such as the joubini, are content in a 30 gallon tank. Others like the day octopus and the Caribbean briarus will need something in the range of 120 gallons. There are even larger species, the giant pacific octo can weigh over a hundred pounds and can have an arm span of up to 20 feet. However, those are very rarely offered for sale. They really aren't good pets. They're pretty tough to care for, need live food most of the time, will escape if you give them the slightest opportunity, and will usually live less than a year.
