looking for a LED driver for a small ATS build plz help.

Hey guys I have a small project that I am thinking about.
a nano ATS and looking for a smaller LED driver for the build.

I would normally would use the meanwell LPC 35-700 but it 's for 3 + leds I think I will do only do 2 LEDs . 3 would be the max.
+ it's a little large for a nano.

what I am looking for is
quality
smallish size
would like it to push 700MA ( will be using cree 66o nm)
kinda on the cheap side dont need a $50 driver lol

any thoughts?

Not following what the issue is why you cant use the lpc 35? Can you post your math? Do you just not want to add resistors? What do you plan on doing with only 2 diodes (assuming I'm reading correctly)
I run what I consider a medium size ats on my 135gal the grow surface is about 8"×11" and after experimenting found a 1000watt fixture to work as a minimum, I did try smaller units and they simply didn't grow.
If your looking for an absolute minimum for two diodes you could try a GE 66864.
 
looking to make a small ATS maybe .5 cubes the lcp say 3+ diodes prob only need 2.
not sure if I can run only 2 on that driver and if the smaller Ma drivers will push enough to grow.
 
say only 3+ diodes? I've been all over the meanwell site and I've never seen them give a diode per driver rating as different diodes have different rquirments? Where is that information coming from? Where is the calculation based on your specific LEDs? For instance when I was setting up my lights I chose to use DC:: DC ldd drivers with a CV power supply. the same drivers could run 16 of some LEDs of a specific brand and wavelength and 12 of another and anything in-between for others. It sounds like you need to do some research on exactly how to size a driver and power supply vs a ballast like the one you mentioned.
 
LPC 35-700 has a max voltage of 48V @700mA..
"3W" diodes w/ a v(f) of roughly 3.6V ( blues,whites, not reds) means you can run 48/3.6 = 13 diodes..
Problem is min output voltage is 9..

you can do it easily in 2 steps..
Get an LDD-LW or ldd-hw and a small switching power supply...
W is for "wired" (hardwired) so you don't need to futz w/ circuit boards
Output min is like 2V so one or more diodes is fine, well might be close w/ some reds like the 660nm's Recommend at least 2 diodes in series for reds.


Power supply would be 9 or better volts..at 1A or more output for one LDD.
Easy enough to scavenge like a 12V or so.

Oh when calculating the required power supply voltage make sure you subtract about 3V i.e a 9V ps will only be capable of about 6V out..
Use that to calculate strings..like only 1 3.7V (1.62 diodes to bemore precise but need to round down) diode w/ 9 V ps.

Or just buy a e27 led grow light for a couple bucks and toss it in an applicable holder. It's cheaper and easier if youve never built LEDs before.
 
Reef LED lab (reefll.com) has a calculator where you put in your goals and it will spit out a list of specific parts btw. Obviously its their sponsors etc but it will give you some good ideas.
 
I have build a led array it was a few years ago also build a cpl ATS but this project is on the smaller side. still in the theory phase anyway.

I got that info from rapied led web site about the 35-700 i have used a few of them over the years. but nothing this small.
 
@oreo5457 the op proposed lights are running 2.4V per diode (red).

if your dealing with rapid try their 0-10 volt dimable nano driver, I'd call them and double check bc I can't find the auctual manufacturer of the driver to get more specs. Running two diodes is probably an odd application. I'd think most people would be running a small amount like that off a battery in a flash light etc.

If the driver you mentioned has a minimum output of 9V as oreo said the minimum for that driver and your specific LEDs would auctually be 4 not 3 btw.

you are correct I got an email from Rapid and they conformed the LPC 35-700 is a 4 min, driver...BOO

What, exactly are you trying to do?

For "plant" growth you could switch to "full spectrum" 3W star LED's..
Blue base and red phosphor so the V(f) is much higher than typical reds..
Still only lowers you to 3 with that driver..

from my experience deep reds ( 66o nm) LEDs and those of people like santa monica or turbo from trubo aquatics ATS reds are a perfect for turf algae. sure you can might in some blue or whites but reds tend to give the best result.
