Looking for a mentor. Sorry for long post

Hi Lori my name is Vanessa and I just wanted to stop by and say hi and let you know from experience and being new to this site that there has been members that have taken me under their wing and walk me through the steps I have spent months and months doing research on saltwater tank but in the end I still need to develop ideas off of somebody's head that had more experience than me with that said I believe you are in the best place out there these people are kind and dedicated and love to share their experiences with the salt water life. I know you will enjoy all of the people that are here and you'll be just excited when you realize that you have hundreds of friends that are here to help you and your husband and your saltwater Adventure again welcome to reef2reef and I just want you to know I have Smiles For You

I was only messing around[emoji1] no need to be sorry!

I am running my first sump. I DIYed it and plumbed the sump to not ever overflow. The reason I have not ever used a sump was the same fear of it overflowing. I also have a check valve a little pricey but it work well;) The sump has a drain, and a overflow with a stand pipe which drain out through the wall to the outside

Any chance you will be in Windsor, Ontario, Canada any time soon? Hahaha just kidding (kind of) :)

Welcome Lori , I think your tank looks awesome, I really like your rockscape and the way your corals are placed look so natural. From going through your thread you have a lot of great members looking out for you. Looking forward to following along. :)
Thanks @Chrisfish. I just redid my scape a few weeks ago. Got the ideas from here of course. I'm trying with the corals. Not too sure where they should be as far as height and flow in the tank. I kind of treat it like I do when I buy new plants for my yard. Put it where I think it looks good, watch how it reacts, if it thrives and grows, keep it there. If it doesn't do well, find a better location until it's in the perfect spot.

Thanks @Vanessa1971 . I love this site. I have been lurking in the shadows for quite awhile now but just recently joined a few months back. I've gotten so much help just from reading in the forums before joining. I pay attention to how others are treated and not once have I noticed anyone being ridiculed or made to feel inadequate for not knowing what to do. We have a local aquatic society that I joined hoping to find people to steer me in the right direction. In all honesty, they are not so friendly, helpful or knowledgeable as reef2reef.

@Lori LeBlanc, welcome to reef2reef. There are plenty of people here ready to give you the right information at anytime of the day!
Thanks @cameronh . I am finding this to be very true. My questions get answered usually within minutes. My local forum sometimes takes a couple weeks, which is too late by then. I have seen some of your posts on helen ann's biocube thread. That thread was so entertaining to follow. If I had everything in place as far as equipment goes, I am sure I would be just like helen ann.

Ha, Ha that is right across the river from were I was born (Hamtramck, Mi) AKA Detroit:). Live in central Florida now, were we have two season, spring and summer;). That being said we can walk through DIY parts of you project.

I tested my 125 g tank for calcium, kh and phosphate for the first time tonight. Have been testing regularly for ammonia, nitrite, nitrates and ph. These are my numbers for tonight.
Calcium - 500
KH - 304.3
Phosphate - .50
PH - 8.3/8.4
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 0
Ammonia - 0
Salinity - 1.026
Where do I go from here? Water change? Should these numbers worry me if everything else is at acceptable levels?

The fx6 is pretty heavy to lift into the other room unless hubby is here. Would you recommend the reef octopus? It would be about $400 (Canadian)

There are a lot of really awesome sumps out there and DIY designs. The sump I selected was an Aqueon Proflex Sump 3. There were two draws for me being new to the hobby when it was purchased - it had 3 configurations I could test(Berlin, wet/dry, and refugium) to determine what works best for me and it was at a more competitive price point for the sump volume.

A distant third, but highly important benefit was that it also the largest volume I could find and fit under my 40g tank stand :).

Lastly it was something I could grow into - at the time I only had a 40G and this was "rated" at up to 110G.

As far as maintenance/lifting/etc I use a smaller 1g bucket to move pumps/media/whatever in and out of the sump with little drippage/mess. It has the ability to use filter socks (or not) - I just use them when I need them. e.g. a goby starts a new tunnel construction project before he has all the proper permits :).

Once or twice a year I'll drain the sump and take it outside for a deep clean.

I want to say the sump is ~6+ years old and still in good condition. It was a thoughtful, good choice for someone new to sumps and don't regret it one bit.

I'm just all mesed up got to many PM's that got way underskin and i messed up again....lol ignore my post
