I have a Tunze ATO that pushes through my Kalk reactor. The Tunze has optical sensor primary, float switch secondary.
I use my Apex with a pH set point shutoff as tertiary, and as the final safeguard, if by chance it failed when my ATO chamber was just filled to the top and pumped out fully, it is only 7% of my tank volume. The specific gravity would go low, but probably not lethal.
The Apex PH shutoff did save me from an overflow once, when my overflow plugged and algae slowed the backup enough to cause the water level in the display to start rising. The sensors in the sump did not come into play. The elevated pH stopped the ATO.
Pro tip. If that ever happens, siphon water out of the display before shutting off the pumps. Nearly had a sump overflow from the extra water in the display draining into the sump after shutting the return off, Luckily realized it in time.
