For the last year i've been helping my veterinarian with his 400 gallon reef. The skimmer that he has is old-school and extremely inadequate for his system. I'm out of the loop as to who's making the best skimmer today. He doesn't want to spend a fortune on the skimmer so i'm looking for something in the $500 range... thanks in advance!

does anyone have any experience with the Bubble Magus BM-NAC9? BRS has it for $399.... also who makes a good electric neck wiper? i know Avast Marine was making one but never heard any feedback on it.

Hey bud. I am not a skimmer expert by any stretch. You should pm "mojo" as he is one of the better folks around with skimmer knowledge. The Avast Swabbie is a very nice product! Have had mine for around a year and love it! Very easy to use. I know that doesn't answer all of your questions but its a start...

Look for a used skimmer man... Anything new and $500 range isn't gonna cut it on a 400gal tank... For that size I would be looking into a used one myself... New your not gonna find anything decent for less than a grand IMHO...

that Reef Octopus looks pretty nice... thanks Troy! Craig good to see you man! :) Have y'all heard anything about the Bubble Magus skimmers?

I have used a Nac7 on a 150g system, it worked ok. We get what we pay for and the recommendations they give us on skimmer size is slightly misleading at times. Is his tank a reef or fish only?
