Looking for Advice on a Nano Reef Tank

Hey guys,

So I am looking at creating a coral setup in a nano tank due to space issues. I am new to everything saltwater related and realize that caring for a nano reef can be very tricky. Is there any tanks you guys would recommend for beginners? Is there any that come with most of the required components?

Depended on how much space you have to work with, the All In One tanks are great for space savers. The Innovative Marine 10 gallon or 20 gallon all in one would be a great starting point for you. Bulk Reef Supply sells kits that come with everything you need to get started. Only thing it doesn't supply is the water

Is there anyway you could explain the heating vent issue with saltwater tanks? Every room in my apartment has vents. Do you just not want to sit the tank directly under them?

Correct. Try to position your tank so it's not on or near a heating and ac vent so that you dont have rapid fluctuations in your tank temperature

A bit of advice I might add is to maintain a strict water change schedule. I change 10% per week. That will help keep things running smoothly. I would also recommend some sort of auto top off system to keep your salinity from fluctuating too much. As far as the temp goes, get a good reliable heater and maybe even an inexpensive controller, like this Ink Bird, which is only $39. That would be a safeguard, in case you get a malfunctioning heater.

Another piece of advice as with any new tank esp nano's "Go Slow" You will be much happier and save money if you add new corals and fish 1 at a time over a period of weeks or months.

I'll add to this, you'll also save yourself alot of headache and heartache in the future by quarantine all fish and coral I'd you have the capability.

Another tank to consider is the Fluval Evo 13.5, I'm happy with mine and they're popular on the forum so recommend having a search on some build threads. Will need to also purchase the Fluval M50 heater or similar and eventually a powerhead.

I've got the same tank and it's a great tank! I've had it for about 2 months now and it's been great. I added a powerhead, heater, and UV sterilizer.
I bought the tank from Amazon for $149. Filling with rock, sand, and critters was substantially more.
