Looking for an idea, I know you all got 'em.

So I've been on break from the larger forums for sometime and thought I get back into the mix. Been spending a lot of time with a new associate and fellow reefer here on r2r; CBenner, who has some really cool tools at hand

So down to the question at hand.

Imagine that you have the following at your disposal:

1. 1 piece of 24 by 24 inch .25 thick clear acrylic.
2. 1 piece of 24 by 24 inch .25 thick black acrylic.
3. You are allow to use one "Odds and Ends" piece of acrylic including but not limited too: Acrylic Rod, Shape, Acrylic hardward (hinges, etc.) as long as the "Odds and Ends" piece is a supplement to the project.


Years of being a data analyst has basically turned the imagination side of my brain into mush. I now find myself in a situation such as this and cannot decide on something neat to build. It's like hearing about ose people who win a million dollars and cannot decide what to buy. So anyone who wants to jump on in with 2 cents about this is more than welcome. Just do your best to stay inside the parameters of the material list, since that is currently all I have on hand......

No idea is unfit. The only thing I have been able to come up with is an acrylic Oreo cookie so anythign you got is better than that!

How large is your tank? I used some clear acrylic strips on the outside and mesh in the middle to make a new screened top for my tank.

I would make an awesome frag rack but my twist would be on one end there would be a dish for sand for plate coral frags etc

My SPS tank is a 90 gallon

I like that idea. Do you havean easy way to get in through the mesh? I keep saying how much I hate the eggcrate I've used in the past but never thought od a clear screen door. Wish I had a smaller tank though. Haven't any practice yet with seaming to flat sheets together to make a larger sheet.

Thanks for the post I have a friend in the local reef club who needs idea on a top for her 150. She has been plagues with carpet surfin' 6 lines

I used the door screen aluminum and twine and it works great! Comes with 2 little tabs to lift up!

Someone from the Commonwealth. I like how you think. Hard to conceptualize how the sand tray would work but I definely have enough acrylic to pull it off. Here is a quicky with room for 100 frags and one heck of a large plate coral

What a great idea!

I am positive someone out there has a thought, a flicker in the back of the head, something scribbled on a cocktail napkin. It doesn't even need to be a "cool" idea, maybe something necessary, or to make tank maintenance easier. If I could make a wife who spends less money out of two 24 inch sheets of acrylic I would have done it already.

Would love to see a photo. Even a bad photo. My friend is dying to put a lid together. I got the screen on a roll just haven't figured a way to get it framed in.

Ahhhh Aluminum screen. I thought you meant aluminum fram and regular screening. That looks like a great DIY. Looks relatively inexpensive too!
