I want to buy a nice camera!

Would like to stay around 500

What I would use it for:

Of course for my corals and fish! So I need the macro. I'm also going to use it for nature shots like deer, birds, hawks, owls, squriells ( I love squirells )

Suggestions!?

Thanks!

You MIGHT be able to find a Used Macro lens for $500.00. Finding a camera body and macro lens, you're looking at closer to a grand.

Look at some of the "prosumer" DSLRs made by Canon and Nikon. Wrap your hands around each...make a decision based on how each feels to you, how easy the buttons are to reach, etc. Both will take exceptional photos, with the proper lenses and user abilities.

ok see I dont know these things! lol

well lets change it to what camera suggestions do you suggest that I can buy and then buy a macro lense for later on!

is that what the DSLR is?

NOW you're on the right track!

DSLR, Digital Single Lens Reflex. This is a camera that can use different lenses, as apposed to a Point and Shoot, which has an attached lens, which cannot be changed.

DSLR cameras are able to take a much larger variety of photos than a Point and Shoot and, in the proper hands, will result in much better photos.
DSLR cameras are more complicated to use, than a Point and Shoot.
DSLR cameras are more expensive than a Point and Shoot.

Purchasing a DSLR is a big decision, if you've never used one. They require a willingness to learn, as they are more complicated.

Once you've decided to purchase a DSLR, go to a good camera shop and handle several models. I'd suggest sticking with Canon or Nikon models. A good camera shop will explain the basics to you and allow you to handle them, even taking photos with them. Which feels best in your hands? That's the one you want!

Down the road, you can purchase a Macro (Canon)/Micro (Nikon) lens.

Do NOT buy a new camera on Ebay! You will not have a warranty at all and will probably be purchasing a "gray market" model.

Buy from a reputable camera shop. Having a good relationship with a local camera shop can be priceless!

I got a great Pentax slr 12mp at best buy for around $300, and at Talls Camera found a macro lens for $250. Have had them for a little over a year now. Deals can be found if you look. Whatever you buy make sure the lenses are interchangable. All pentax fit all pentax as well as canon.
Good luck!!

I got a Nikon D5100 after a lot of comparing of cameras. I love it. I did not go with Canon because they do strange things like take away features as they add new cameras. (The T2i is better than the T3i). I avoided the Nikon D3200 because they though it was a good idea to add 24 megapixels to a intermediate-consumer level camera... bad idea. Unless you have a Professional lens you will get tons of noise in your pics once you start going up past ISO 400.

So if you are wanting a great camera for around $500 I recommend the D5100.
