I’m looking to have a custom stand built for a new tank I am having made. Does anyone have recommendations for a cabinetry builder in Florida (preferably in south Florida). Someone with experience making aquarium stands

I could diy a metal or wood stand but I’m trying to see if it is worth my time.

Thank you
-Dan

Did you end up finding someone? I am in SW Florida and am looking into stand options for my 180. I don’t have any tools at the moment, so trying to figure out if it will be cheaper to have one made then to buy the tools and materials to do it right.

If you don’t have any experience in cabinetry, wood jointers, or furniture building you’ll most likely not be happy with the results of building it yourself.

I built a simple stand out of purple heart (an exotic South American wood species) that I’m really happy with, but woodworking is my other major hobby.

If I didn’t have any experience or tools, I’d get a stand from these guys:

They sell additional connectors and hinges and whatnot and I’d imagine it’d be pretty easy to cover with any wood or finish you want. 3/4” MDF painted with a glossy white or black lacquer finish would give it a clean modern look - and be relatively easy to do yourself.

The word "Custom" usually equates to 300%-500% of retail :eek::eek:

Are you sure about this? Have you Googled aquarium stands for a few hours?

Retail aquarium stands are usually just mass produced in China particleboard stuff. Sufficient, but not that sturdy and probably not very suited for a reef setup when you add sumps, skimmers, dosers and the like.

The alternative is locally made stands by pro or semi pro woodworkers who know what they're doing. Which will be, relative to the particleboard, very expensive. And will be very hard to recoup when you eventually sell...

I build custom stands and canopys . I live in Buffalo Ny if you willing to pay for the shipping I can build one for you , This is just one of my stands I have done.

I build stands as well, but shipping alone will make it economically prohibitive. Ask your LFS, ask at your local WoodCraft or other woodworking specialty store (NOT HD/Lowes!!!), look on your local forum.
