So I am looking at trying to get a similar recipe put together for my tank(s) to Red Sea's Reef Energy, meaning I am looking for an Amino Acid/Vitamin/Carbohydrate Recipe or simply where to find similar ingredients. The main reason being that I am now running multiple tanks and the cost is starting to add up.
For those who may be unfamiliar, this is what Red Sea describes RE as:
"Reef Energy® A is a unique formulation of carbohydrates, amino acids, fatty acids and suspended proteins flocks that are available for direct consumption and absorption by the corals. Every component has been proven to be utilized in the metabolic processes of coral protein production and soft tissue regeneration and therefore does not introduce any unnecessary organic material to the system. Reef Energy® A stimulates extension of the polyps and soft tissue helping the coral to optimize nutrient consumption by expanding its surface area for absorption.
Reef Energy® B is a highly concentrated complex of Vitamins & Amino acids that were found to be the limiting factors in the nutritional demands of corals and other invertebrates. This complex replenishes the exact vitamins and MAA (marine amino acids) produced by Zooxanthellae. Vitamins are important precursors in the synthesis of chromo proteins while the amino acids are their building blocks. All of the components of Reef Energy® B come from marine sources and are emulsified in a unique medium that enhances their solubility and absorption of the vitamins and acids by the corals."
I have searched through other threads mentioning Aspartic Acid, Fulvic Acid, and Humic Acid. But I am just now learning about all of these and how these work. None of the threads I have read mention what they are using or how much.
So now here are the AA questions:
Where are the best places to find these?
I assume a lab/reagent grade would be best (I assume pills have binders)?
Can they be mixed?
What is a good ratio of these?
What are people using for vitamin supplementation?
Are you buying lab/reagent grade vitamins?
What about are you dosing?
Don't even know where to start for the carbohydrate part of Reef Energy...
I have read multiple threads today on using Amino Acids and Vitamins here on R2R and whether or not they are useful and I don't want this thread to follow that route at all. I use Reef Energy now, I like it and the results I have seen on coloration and growth, so please let's not rehash that debate.
