My new build is up and running, now it's time for flow upgrades and I'm looking for suggestions for wavemakers.

Tank is 7x 2 x2, mostly sps, 4.0mm sand.

I am considering 2 tunze stream 3, 2 gyre 280 or 2 wav. Tunze is what I'm learning towards, what do you all think?

I have a 8'x3'x'3 tank and started with two XF280's. On 100% they don;t create much flow, I added two MP60w-QD's and that made a huge difference. Biggest issue now is the sand moving around.

I'd considered the mp 60s but for the price I've heard way too many failure stories and reports of poor service. Maybe I will reconsider.

I do have 2 mp 40s ill leave in for any dead spots.

Tha ks for the reply

If you are concerned about failures and poor service stay very far away from the gyres, especially if you are running them at 100%

If you hate maintenance like I do, then the Tunze is your friend!

I've had decent luck with gyres, though I agree they are prone to failure and have zero support. But they are also a lot cheaper.

My concern is paying eco tech prices but receiving gyre type quality and service....

That's my top choice for now, just nervous about the fact there is so little feedback about them

I'v got 2 but no water yet. My friend @ReeferBean has 1 in his 300 and he is very impressed.

It's a Beast. Great pump. I only run mine at 30% but I don't have much in my tank yet. Its a little bulky, but with the right placement it doesn't matter. Mine is placed behind my rockwork and moves water all the way around the tank. You can't go wrong with Tunze. Amazing support and pumps that are built to last. Roger is the best.

How long is your tank? 30% moves water all the way around? Thats awesome! Is sucking up sand on the cleaning cycle a concern?

Downfall is the cord and you can’t position or angle it as well as other pumps. You can direct the flow to an extent. I just have mine moving water behind the rock work and back around the front. I have a 6255 on the side glass.

Its 72 x 36 x 27. Yes. I have it angled up slightly... took a little messing around so it wouldn't blow the sand in the front right corner. Now no issues. Both pumps are at 30%. But it could easily push water all the way around the tank on its on turned up further.

I can take some more pics for you when I get home. The above is not the greatest, and photos are definitely not my forte hehe

I haven't run the cleaning cycle since I've had it. I can try and let you know.

Tunze still my front runner!

I thought the cleaning cycle was automatic once a day... can you control that?

Yes you are right, I guess it performs a cleaning cycle for 8 seconds once a day. I've never noticed LOL

I haven't cleaned the pump since February. :)

That's funny.

Thanks all for the input, keep it coming!
