Hello fellow refers!

I'm out and about today looking to add something to help keep my Sand bed clean. I was originally looking for a sand sifting goby when I came across a tiger cucumber. Liveaquaria has them listed as expert care needed and I was hoping to get some insight from those who already have one.

He would b going into a 45 gallon, no skimmer, no fancy tech just a power filter with chemi-pure blue for media. Tank mates are a clownfish, baby foxface, baby yellow tang, and flame hawk...would eventually move into a 75 gallon with sump, skimmer, and media reactors.

Thanks for your input!

If the tank is a newer tank I would pass. Tiger tails really turn over the sand consuming a lot of flora and fauna.

System will be 2 years old this october...

they love water flow and are peaceful. Assure tank conditions are optimal as if they deteriorate or die, can release toxins like most inverts. Sea Cucumber feeds by catching their food particulates trapped in the water column. The particles are then brought to the mouth and ingested. It's best to feed with either zooplankton or other liquid invertebrate foods (coral vite and similar). Daily feedings are recommended.

They are incredible sand sifters and don't require any special care other than a decent sized established sandbed.

These are sand sifters, not filter feeding cucs btw. You don't have to feed them

Tiger tails are awesome cuc. They eat your dirty sand and poop out sparkling white piles. Not sure I'd put one in a 45g unless there was a lot of sandbed for it to roam.

Tiger tails are almost exclusively sand dwelling. Often they are hidden within the sand bed. This cucumber turns over sand like no tomorrow, but they need an established sand bed.

Do u know of any supplemental feeding I can do? I do have quite a bit of open sandy areas. Dimensions are 36 x 18. I'll post a pic of the tank. By the sound of things i would really like to add one but dont want to put anything in the tank that's gonna starve.

Here's the tank the tiger tail would be going into.

I wouldn't attempt supplemental feeding. Hmm your tank is a bit small but you do have lots of open sand. How old is the sand? If your having doubts about it then it's probably a no go, it's not pretty when these guys die

I went down to my better lfs. The guy there really knows his stuff and has been doing it for over 30 years. He seemed confident that I would b ok with one in my tank...really had no concerns at all, So i went for it. He told me to temperature acclimate for 15 mins then drip acclimate for 45 mins - 1hr, so that's what I am doing now. He's a fatty, seems healthy and is moving around in my specimen cup...are there any warning signs I should know about b4 one starts to go?

Sandbed doesn't look quite deep enough to me.
