I recently lost 2 butterflies to a bacterial infection of some sort. no pictures were taken. I'm looking for advice on treatments that actually work.(I was treating with aquatic life cure) I have cooper and prazipro. what other meds should I have on hand? i know everyone has their luck with different things but still have to be better prepared for future purchases not only for me but for my fish. Thanks in advance.

Metronidazole (Metroplex) for treatment of Brook and Uronema.

Nitrofuracin Green Powder is an excellent med for bacterial infections.

You could also use Furan-2 and Kanaplex for bacterial issues combined with metro. I prefer spectrogram which is the same meds basically in one capsule.

Sorry to hear of your losses :(

Sorry about your losses. Such beautiful fish. Did your fish present with red sores or red-ish areas? Were you able to get them to eat?

My butterfly protocol is immediately out of shipping into match salinity qt tank dosed with nfg. I do nfg and ttm for 14 days unless some other symptom/issue arrises. Then transferred to a larger more stable qt for general cure (prazi and metro) on day 2 and then metro per directions until day 8 where they get a second dose of general cure. Then 1 week observation. If anything else shows up, the protocol is stopped or adjusted to treat the issue.

This has been a good protocol. I also do a 25% water change with treated water every day to combat ammonia and other build ups.

My qts are 10 and 20 gallon tanks so water changes aren't bad.

This should treat the majority of stuff but no protection against velvet or Brook.

Also feed high quality food the entire time. No pellet or flakes.

I also recommend metro infused food. I feed during ttm but it would probably be more effective during the general cure metro treatment.

yes, I got them to eat using Rapashy and mixing PE Mysis and Brine the got something that looked like tail and fin rot but then, in the end, they had raised scales. they are truly beautiful fish. thank you for taking the time to give me feed back.
