Great. Make sure that you make your own Build Thread to keep post all your progress.I was planned on looking into that down the road once I got it up and going. I live 5 minutes away from them and planned on doing 10% changes once a week

I won't thank youMy pleasure. don't hesitate if you have any other question.
New to having a saltwater tank and just started getting somethings but looking for any input. I have a 60 gallon long tank (48x12.5x24), 40lbs of sand and 50lbs of dry rock. Looking at getting a HOB octopus 90 protein skimmer, have a fluval 110 hob filter to run carbon, 150w eheim heater, but not sure on lighting or powerheads yet. Starting out going basic with a pair of clown fish and eventually would like to add more and some soft corals. Any input would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
I was looking at getting 2 Jebao OW-40 (3692gph each) one for each side. So the Kessil's 360's would work better than a pair of the hydra 26's on my tank?First off - Welcome to R2R. Secondly with a tank that narrow you're going to need good circulation (ask me how I know) a pair of Vortech MP10s will work - don't bother with cheaper powerheads because you need the circulation for gas exchange. Your tank is long and narrow and surface area is limited. I have same tank and went through trials and tribulations until light went off that my circulation was insufficient. Re: Lighting I went with Kessil 360s x 3 - again deep and narrow if you're going to keep any coral.

I have both the Jebao OW-40s and Ecotech. They both work great. Whatever fits your budget. Kessil is also a great brand of lights. Everyone is going to have an opinion but go with what fits in your budget as well. The products we have recommend are great products and we wouldn't recommend them if they were crap and going to break down on you. I don't think you will be disappointed in either light if you go Hydra or Kessil.I was looking at getting 2 Jebao OW-40 (3692gph each) one for each side. Welcome !Thanks for the advice I really appreciate any input I get. Is there anything wrong with waiting longer after your tank cycles before adding anything then? I’m in no hurry to rush into this and want to make sure I do everything rightWelcome to R2R! I know this is going to sound a bit odd, but our first order of business for a successful reef tank is to manage water quality. Everything else comes secondary: fish, corals, inverts, macros, etc.
Consider investing in a good, solid RODI system from a place like Bulk Reef Supply. Most do well with a 4 Stage system. Making your own water will pay off big time as you progress in the hobby. Good testing equipment from Red Sea, Salifert to check your parameters. And take your time letting the tank cycle. Nothing good happens in this hobby quickly. Once you get a good rhythm to making, testing, and managing your water, the rest will follow.

That’s good to know I hear and read good things about the ecotech but was looking at the jebao ow-40s to start and then eventually work up to them one day. Once the tank has finished the initial ammonia + nitrite + nitrate cycle, and it can "eat" 1-2 ppm of ammonia that you dose in 24 hours, you can "ghost" feed the tank with a bit of food every few days or so to keep the "good" bacteria at optimal levels. Is there anything wrong with waiting longer after your tank cycles before adding anything then?

Ok so I can ghost feed after the cycle every few days till I’m ready to add my fish that’s good to know thank youOnce the tank has finished the initial ammonia + nitrite + nitrate cycle, and it can "eat" 1-2 ppm of ammonia that you dose in 24 hours, you can "ghost" feed the tank with a bit of food every few days or so to keep the "good" bacteria at optimal levels.
My current tank start up went 76 days fallow as I used some "live sand" to help cycle the tank and I wanted to starve out any encysted ich parasites that may have come in with the live sand.
So while the display tank was cycling/fallow for 76 days, I QT'd my first batch of fish: Clean tank no parasites and cycled; clean fish no parasites going into my new tank.![]()
