Looking for hob skimmer recommendation for redsea e170 max aio

The skimmer is just not skimming have cleaned it and heard it’s a great skimmer even rated for a bigger tank but I am not happy with it.
I have tried adjusting it for 9 months and I don’t think it’s skimming well enough or at all I get really dry foam no matter what adjustment I make.
I am looking to replace it with a hang on the back.
Have see the icecap k3 100 hob and the octopus ones any one recommend or hate one of these or something better?

I would honestly try to make it work with the intank skimmer. I dont know about you, but I totally underestimated how big a hob skimmer was and I got a reef octo 100 classic. I did not want that thing sticking out of my tank. If it was hob in the sump, that would be one thing, but no way I am letting that gigantic box hang on my display.

True but I can’t seem to get this one to work.
I have it adjusted right know to where it should be skimming like crazy and still nothing.

We just got a Reef Octo 100 HOB and yes it is large. its for our 65 gal. Me personally if I was to do it again I would look at the 1000 as the pump is not in the tank. They are bigger than what they look like online but so far no complaints here with the reef octo 100. its still in the break in period so hopefully it starts going soon.

Sorry missed this! The prism hob skimmer or the in tank one? I would look at the tunze comline skimmer and aquamaxx ws-1 and see if the fit the tank dimensions (smallest good protein skimmers i could find). I cant find the dimensions for the protein skimmer compartment on the 170 right now or i would recomend larger skimmers. HOB is always more of a hassle and more finicky than in sump/tank IME and if it overflows ever the water goes straight onto your floor.

Find a solution? If it is the new one I would also look into that nice sump upgrade, pretty reasonably price and the water level will be less turbulent for the protein skimmer as well or you could even upgrade to a regular in sump protein skimmer which is way more stable than nano/hob skimmers

Just an update I went with the icecap k1-50 not a hob but it barely fit....
I have been really impressed so far skimming real well dark tea.
It was tough to fit in the e170 max aio
I have it by the first chamber. Sure wish redsea would not have put the glass piece in the back for the skimmer that came with it.
I again am very impressed with the icecap and the tank seems clearer than ever. I have had this tank up for just over 9 months.
Its easy to adjust and see the adjustment not like the redsea skimmer it came with.
I have always felt the redsea was just not skimming enough probably to big for the e170.
It should also be much easier to take out and clean as the redsea one was a big pain to get out of the aio.
